Suzuki India Sets Up Second Two-Wheeler Manufacturing Plant in Haryana
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) is set to expand its production capabilities in India with the establishment of its second manufacturing plant. Located at IMT Kharkhoda in Haryana, the new facility is part of the company’s strategy to meet rising domestic demand as well as bolster export volumes.
Strategic Expansion and Investment
Building on its success with the first greenfield facility in Manesar, Suzuki’s new plant at Kharkhoda will be developed with an initial investment of approximately ₹1,200 crores. Spread over 100 acres of land, the facility reflects Suzuki’s commitment to modernizing its manufacturing operations with lean production techniques, state-of-the-art automation, and energy-efficient systems. These measures are not only aimed at enhancing output and quality but also at supporting Suzuki’s global sustainability goals.
Production Capacity and Timeline
In its first phase, the Kharkhoda plant is designed to produce up to 7.5 lakh two-wheelers annually. Such a robust production capacity underscores Suzuki’s intent to meet the growing demand for its products in India. The new facility is scheduled to commence operations in 2027, which will further strengthen Suzuki’s position in the competitive two-wheeler market.
Contributing to Local Development
Aligned with the Indian government’s vision to improve industrial infrastructure and attract global investments, the Kharkhoda facility is expected to generate around 2,000 new jobs. This initiative will not only enhance local economic development but also deepen Suzuki’s ties with regional suppliers and dealer partners, facilitating a more robust supply chain and service network.
Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India, emphasized that the new plant will play a key role in supporting the government’s industrial progress plans while also contributing to sustainable regional growth.
In Summary
The establishment of the second two-wheeler manufacturing plant at IMT Kharkhoda marks a significant milestone for Suzuki India. With an investment of nearly ₹1,200 crores, a production capacity tailored to satisfy rising domestic and export demand, and a strong focus on technological efficiency and sustainability, this facility is set to become a cornerstone of Suzuki’s long-term growth strategy in India.
