Jaguar Land Rover decision to locally assemble its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs in India is set to make these luxury vehicles more accessible to Indian consumers. This move marks India as the first country outside the UK where these SUVs will be locally produced.
Reduced Prices and Lower Waiting Periods
With local assembly, prices for these vehicles have significantly dropped. For instance, the Range Rover 3.0-litre diesel HSE LWB now starts at Rs 2.36 crore, a reduction of Rs 44 lakh, while the Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre diesel Dynamic SE starts at Rs 1.40 crore, down by Rs 29 lakh. This reduction in prices coupled with local assembly is expected to decrease the waiting period for these sought-after SUVs.
Local Assembly Operations and Product Lineup
The local assembly operations in India expand Jaguar Land Rover’s existing lineup produced at its Pune facility, which already includes models like the Velar, Evoque, Jaguar F-Pace, and Discovery Sport. Despite the success of the Defender, which remains a full import, the company’s decision to produce the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport locally reflects its commitment to the Indian market.
Luxury SUVs Catering to Discerning Customers
The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have long been favorites among Bollywood stars, sports personalities, and the affluent in India. The locally assembled versions, particularly the higher-spec LWB variants, are expected to appeal to this discerning clientele, offering luxury and performance at more competitive price points.
Engine Options and Delivery Dates
Both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will offer two engine options: a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol producing 392hp and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel producing 345hp. Deliveries for the locally assembled Range Rover have already commenced, while those for the Range Rover Sport are set to start on August 16, 2024.
Exclusive Luxury Experience at Range Rover House
To complement the launch of the locally assembled SUVs, Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled “Range Rover House” in Alibaug, Maharashtra. This facility is designed to offer an exclusive and contemporary luxury experience to the brand’s discerning clientele, with a showcase of some of the first locally produced Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs.
