Mahindra Thar Facelift Spied Testing — Borrowing The Roxx’s Style

The Mahindra Thar is set for another exciting update, and this time it’s drawing heavily from its recently launched sibling — the Thar 5-door Roxx. Spy shots of the upcoming Thar facelift (3-door version) have surfaced, giving us a clear glimpse of the design and feature upgrades Mahindra has in store.

Fresh Styling Inspired by the Roxx

From the very first look, it’s evident that Mahindra wants to bring the 3-door Thar closer to the more premium Roxx in terms of design. The most noticeable change is at the front — a new six-slot grille that features a double-stacked pattern, very similar to the Roxx. The LED headlights now come with C-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), giving the Thar a sharper, more modern face. Even the front bumper and fog lamp housings have been redesigned, adding to the refreshed appeal.

Changes aren’t limited to the front. The rear end also gets a tweak with updated tail-lights and a slightly redesigned rear bumper, which were visible in the latest spy shots.

Upgraded Cabin With More Tech

Inside, Mahindra seems to have focused on bringing the 3-door Thar up to date with modern comforts and technology. The facelifted model features a large free-standing 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system — a setup similar to what we’ve seen in the Thar 5-door. This likely means it’ll support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The digital upgrades continue with a fully digital instrument cluster, pairing a second 10-inch screen for the driver. There’s also a new Roxx-inspired steering wheel, updated A-pillar grab handles, and most importantly, the power window switches have finally moved to the doors (instead of the awkward central placement in the current version).

Another welcome addition is the automatic climate control system, replacing the manual air-conditioning knobs. This should significantly improve everyday comfort for users, especially in city driving.

No Major Changes Under the Hood

While the Thar’s look and feel are evolving, Mahindra isn’t changing much mechanically. The engine options are expected to remain the same — the familiar 1.5-litre diesel (117 hp) for rear-wheel-drive variants, while the 4WD versions will continue to use the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (152 hp) and 2.2-litre diesel (132 hp) engines. Transmission choices are also likely to stay the same with both manual and automatic options.

Launch Timeline and Pricing

Mahindra is expected to officially unveil the facelifted Thar towards the end of 2025 or early 2026, possibly timed around the festive season when car launches see a lot of buyer interest. Pricing is expected to see a small bump over the current ex-showroom price range of ₹11.5 lakh to ₹17.6 lakh, mainly due to the added tech and premium features.

The Thar Evolves Further

The Thar facelift clearly aims to bridge the gap between hardcore off-roading and daily usability. With the addition of more creature comforts, better tech, and modern design cues from the Roxx, the updated 3-door Thar should appeal to both existing enthusiasts and new urban buyers looking for a capable yet stylish SUV.
