Next-Gen Hyundai Creta to Launch with Hybrid Engine in 2027

Hyundai is gearing up to take its best-selling SUV, the Creta, into the hybrid era. The upcoming third-generation Creta, expected to launch in 2027, will introduce a new strong-hybrid variant alongside the familiar petrol and diesel models. This move reflects Hyundai’s shift towards cleaner mobility, especially as India tightens emission norms under CAFE Phase III.

🔋 Hybrid Powertrain: What to Expect

The hybrid system will combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, creating a fuel-efficient yet responsive setup. It’s likely to be similar to the hybrid powertrain offered on the Kia Seltos in global markets. Reports suggest Hyundai will locally manufacture key components like the battery pack and electric motor, making it one of the company’s first mass-market hybrids to be developed in India.

🚘 Other Engine Options Will Stay

The hybrid Creta won’t replace current engines but will join the lineup. Customers can still expect:

  • 1.5L petrol (NA)
  • 1.5L turbo-petrol
  • 1.5L diesel

This diverse offering ensures Hyundai caters to a wide range of buyers—whether they prioritize efficiency, performance, or long-distance capability.

🛠️ Built on New SX3 Platform

The next-gen Creta will be built on a fresh platform, codenamed SX3, designed to support hybrid tech from the ground up. This change allows for smoother integration of electrical systems without compromising space or practicality.

📍 Made in India, for India

The hybrid Creta will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Tamil Nadu facility. With high localisation, Hyundai aims to keep prices competitive and make hybrid technology more accessible for Indian buyers.

📆 Timeline and Market Relevance

Hyundai is expected to debut the hybrid Creta around early 2027, right as stricter emission rules take effect. It will compete directly with the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, both of which already offer strong-hybrid tech.

🌱 A Step Toward Greener Mobility

While EV adoption in India grows slowly, hybrids present a practical middle ground. With no need for charging infrastructure and better mileage, hybrids are ideal for buyers who want to go green without range anxiety.
