No Fuel For 15-Year-Old Vehicles In Delhi From April 1

Starting April 1, 2025, Delhi will implement a new rule preventing vehicles older than 15 years from refueling at fuel stations across the city. This initiative, announced by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, is aimed at curbing the worsening air pollution in the national capital.
To enforce this regulation, a dedicated monitoring team will oversee and limit the movement of such outdated vehicles within Delhi and its surrounding areas.
This decision aligns with previous rulings by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Back in April 2015, the NGT had banned diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles older than 15 years from operating in Delhi-NCR in an effort to lower vehicular emissions and encourage the use of newer, cleaner automobiles.
In addition to restricting fuel access for older vehicles, Delhi has made it mandatory for high-rise buildings, commercial complexes, and hotels to install anti-smog guns to combat air pollution more effectively.
Environmental experts emphasize the need to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and strengthen public transport infrastructure as long-term solutions to improve Delhi’s air quality.
These combined efforts highlight Delhi’s commitment to reducing pollution and protecting public health.
