The Dawn of a New Era: BMW Alpina’s Highly Anticipated May 15 Debut

Mar 28, 2026

For decades, the Alpina name has been synonymous with bespoke luxury, exclusivity, and effortless, high-speed cruising. Now, following BMW’s full acquisition of the legendary Buchloe-based brand on January 1, 2026, the automotive world is waiting with bated breath. On May 15, 2026, the first true “new-era” BMW Alpina models will finally make their public debut.

Here is a look at what we know so far, and why this relaunch marks a monumental shift in the luxury car landscape.

A Grand Stage: Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

BMW has chosen the perfect backdrop for this historic event: the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, Italy. Running from May 15 to 17, this prestigious gathering celebrates automotive haute couture. It is the ideal setting for a newly integrated brand that BMW is positioning in the ultra-luxury gap right between its own high-end models and Rolls-Royce.

What to Expect from the New-Era Alpinas

While BMW has kept the exact vehicle reveals closely guarded, industry reports and recent leaks point to a few highly anticipated developments:

  • The Return of the B7: The model expected to lead the charge is the new Alpina B7, based on the heavily updated 7 Series. To highlight its new standalone status within the BMW Group, this model will carry its own distinct internal chassis code (G72), separating it from the standard 7 Series (G70). It is rumoured to feature a potent 4.4-litre V8 mild-hybrid engine producing around 617 horsepower.
  • The Ultimate Luxury SUV: Alongside the flagship sedan, an updated Alpina version of the X7 luxury SUV is also anticipated, continuing the legacy of the powerhouse XB7 but heavily overhauled to match BMW’s Neue Klasse design language.
  • A Distinct Philosophy: BMW’s M division is built for track-ready aggression, but BMW Group R&D chief Joachim Post has made it clear that Alpina will carve a very different path. The new models will not compete with M; instead, they will focus purely on speed, supreme comfort, and long-distance luxury.
  • In-House Production: Unlike previous generations that were partially hand-assembled at Alpina’s historic Buchloe facility, the new-era vehicles will be fully manufactured at upgraded BMW Group plants to ensure uncompromising quality and seamless tech integration.

A Fresh Badge for a Fresh Start

Accompanying the new vehicles is a brand-new visual identity. BMW Alpina recently modernised its iconic emblem—still featuring the classic throttle-body and crankshaft motifs—now with a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic. Fans of the brand’s heritage can rest easy, though: the iconic 20-spoke wheels, signature hand-painted pinstripes, and exclusive “Alpina Blue” and “Alpina Green” paints will remain, now backed by an even higher tier of bespoke interior customisation.

The May 15 debut isn’t just a car launch; it’s the rebirth of an icon. As BMW fully takes the reins, Alpina is poised to redefine what a top-tier grand tourer can be.
