Next-Gen Jeep Compass Unveiled Globally, Skips India Launch

Jeep has officially revealed the third-generation Compass for the European market, showcasing major upgrades in design, interior space, and electric powertrain options. Built on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform — which it shares with the new Citroën C5 Aircross — the SUV has grown in size and tech, but it won’t be making its way to Indian roads.

Fresh, Sleek Exterior Design

The updated Compass holds on to Jeep’s trademark seven-slot grille, now reimagined with a sleek, closed-off look and subtle lighting elements. Flanking the grille are sharply designed rectangular LED Matrix headlights with unique daytime running light (DRL) patterns. The front bumper features bold styling with black cladding, a central air dam, and active grille shutters to help reduce drag.

From the side, the SUV looks more dynamic thanks to squared-off wheel arches, a bold shoulder line, and deep creases along the doors. The floating roof design is emphasized by blacked-out pillars and roof, paired with stylish two-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, you’ll find modern, split-style LED tail-lights connected by a glowing light bar that includes an illuminated Jeep logo. The number plate area has been given a contrasting design treatment to stand out.

Size-wise, the new Compass measures 4,548mm in length — a notable 150mm longer than the previous model. The wheelbase has also been stretched by 159mm to 2,795mm, providing more legroom in the back, especially with 55mm of added space for rear passengers.

Electric and Hybrid Powertrains on Offer

The third-gen Compass is available with multiple powertrain choices aimed at a greener, more efficient future:

  • Mild-Hybrid Option: Features a 1.2-litre petrol engine combined with a 48V electric motor producing 136hp.
  • Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): Uses a 1.3-litre petrol engine along with an electric motor, churning out 240hp and offering up to 50km of electric-only range.
  • Fully Electric (EV): Equipped with a large 98kWh battery and 400V system, it promises up to 650km of driving range on a single charge. Notably, this version is the only one with all-wheel drive.

Jeep claims this model offers best-in-class off-road capability, staying true to its rugged SUV roots.

India Not on the Roadmap

Despite the global debut, Jeep has confirmed the new Compass won’t launch in India. The STLA Medium platform isn’t considered cost-effective for the Indian market, and current Compass sales haven’t been strong enough to justify the switch. For now, Jeep India will stick with the existing second-generation Compass, which will remain on sale with minor updates until around 2026.

Summary

The latest Compass reflects Jeep’s commitment to evolving with modern trends — offering more space, tech, and eco-friendly powertrains. Though Indian customers won’t get this new version, it sets the tone for what Jeep has in store for other global markets.
