Hyundai Exter CNG launched at Rs 7.50 lakh

Apr 8, 2025

Hyundai has expanded its Exter lineup by introducing the EX CNG variant, priced at ₹7.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new addition makes the CNG option more accessible to customers, as it is now available in the base EX trim.

Pricing and Variants

The Exter CNG is now offered in multiple trims, each with its respective ex-showroom Delhi prices:

  • EX CNG: ₹7,50,700
  • S CNG: ₹8,64,300
  • S+ CNG: ₹8,85,000
  • SX CNG: ₹9,33,400
  • SX Knight Edition CNG: ₹9,48,300

For comparison, the corresponding petrol variants are priced as follows:

  • EX Petrol: ₹5,99,900
  • S Petrol: ₹7,73,190
  • S+ Petrol: ₹7,93,190
  • SX Petrol: ₹8,31,200
  • SX Knight Edition Petrol: ₹8,46,100

The price difference between the CNG and petrol variants ranges from ₹91,110 to ₹1,50,800, depending on the trim.

Dual-Cylinder CNG Technology

The Exter CNG features Hyundai’s Hy-CNG dual-cylinder technology, which utilizes two smaller CNG cylinders instead of a single large one. This design enhances boot space, addressing a common limitation in CNG vehicles. While the dual-cylinder setup is standard in the EX CNG variant, the traditional single-cylinder CNG option has not been introduced in this trim.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the Exter EX CNG is equipped with a 1.2-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine. In CNG mode, it delivers 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg for the CNG variant, compared to 19.4 km/l for its petrol counterpart.

Features and Safety

Despite being the entry-level model, the Exter EX CNG comes equipped with several notable features:

  • Exterior: H-shaped LED tail-lights.
  • Interior: 4.2-inch multi-information display (MID), height-adjustable driver’s seat, front power windows.
  • Safety: Six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors, hill start assist.

These features enhance both the comfort and safety of the vehicle, making it a competitive option in its segment.

Market Competition

The Hyundai Exter EX CNG competes directly with models like the Tata Punch, which also offers a dual-cylinder CNG setup. This strategic addition to Hyundai’s lineup aims to cater to the growing demand for economical and eco-friendly vehicles in the Indian market.

By introducing the EX CNG variant, Hyundai provides a more affordable CNG option without compromising on essential features, further strengthening its position in the compact SUV segment.
