Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara Launch Delayed Again, Deliveries Expected by September 2025
Maruti Suzuki’s first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, has experienced another delay, with customer deliveries now expected to begin by the end of September 2025. Originally, the launch was planned for October 2024, then pushed to March 2025, and now further delayed due to ongoing issues related to battery procurement and software development.
Production Timeline and Export Strategy
Production of the e-Vitara is scheduled to begin between March and April 2025 at Suzuki’s Gujarat manufacturing plant. According to company chairman R.C. Bhargava, around 70,000 units are projected to roll off the production line in the first six to seven months. However, a large share of these units will be designated for export markets, particularly Europe and Japan. As a result, domestic deliveries in India are set to commence only by September 2025.
Platform, Variants, and Powertrains
Built on the newly developed Heartect-e platform—created in partnership with Toyota—the e-Vitara will be available in four variants: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Customers can choose between two battery configurations:
- A 49kWh battery mated to a 144hp motor powering the front wheels.
- A larger 61kWh battery delivering 174hp.
An all-wheel-drive version is also in the pipeline, featuring dual motors with a combined output of 184hp and 300Nm of torque. This top-spec variant is expected to offer over 500 km of range on a full charge.
Features and Safety Equipment
The e-Vitara will be loaded with premium features and safety technologies. Key highlights include:
- Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)
- A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
- A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated front seats
- 360-degree camera system
In terms of safety, the SUV will offer seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and tire pressure monitoring, among other features.
Pricing and Rivals
Though the official price hasn’t been announced yet, the e-Vitara is expected to fall in the ₹18–24 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket. This pricing will place it in direct competition with other electric SUVs like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, and the Mahindra BE 05.
Charging Infrastructure and After-Sales Network
To support its EV rollout, Maruti Suzuki is planning a widespread charging network across 100 Indian cities. Additionally, over 1,500 dedicated EV service centers will be established in more than 1,000 cities to ensure efficient service and maintenance support for electric vehicle owners.
Conclusion
Despite the delay, the e-Vitara is shaping up to be a landmark product for Maruti Suzuki as it makes its debut in the EV segment. With competitive specs, modern features, and a strong service network, the e-Vitara is poised to be a major contender in the Indian electric SUV market.
