Skoda Octavia diesel expected to launch in September in India

Skoda Auto India is set to reintroduce the Octavia sedan to the Indian market, featuring a diesel engine option, after a five-year hiatus since the Volkswagen Group discontinued diesel powertrains. Petr Janeba, Skoda Auto India’s brand director, confirmed that the diesel-powered Octavia is slated for a late September 2025 launch, aligning with the festive season.
Specifications and Import Details
The India-bound Octavia diesel will mirror the UK-spec model, imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) under the Indian government’s GSR 870 rule. It will be equipped with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine delivering 150 horsepower, paired exclusively with an automatic transmission. Pricing discussions are currently underway within Skoda’s internal teams.
Skoda’s Diesel Strategy in India
This move marks Skoda’s renewed commitment to diesel offerings in India. At the Auto Expo 2025, the company showcased the new Superb sedan, featuring a 2.0-litre diesel engine with all-wheel drive, indicating plans to cater to diesel enthusiasts in the market.
The reintroduction of the Octavia diesel aims to provide Indian consumers with a premium sedan option that combines performance with fuel efficiency, expanding Skoda’s portfolio in the country.
