Volkswagen Tiguan R Line India Launch Confirmed this Year

Mar 3, 2025

Volkswagen has officially announced that the Tiguan R-Line will be launched in India in the second quarter of 2025. This model represents the top-tier variant of the latest-generation Tiguan, which was globally unveiled in 2023. The R-Line is expected to be imported as a completely built unit (CBU), indicating a premium pricing strategy.

Exterior and Interior Features

The Tiguan R-Line distinguishes itself with sporty design elements. It features unique front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler, and side panels specific to the R-Line design. The vehicle is equipped with full-width horizontal LED light strips at both the front and rear, enhancing its modern aesthetic. Larger 19-inch alloy wheels further contribute to its dynamic stance. In international markets, a Black Style package is available, though it’s yet to be confirmed if this option will be offered in India.

Inside, the Tiguan R-Line comes with sports seats and an ambient lighting system that offers three light zones and 30 color options, providing a customizable cabin atmosphere. Standard equipment includes a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch central infotainment display. The dashboard design is sleek and upscale, with the infotainment system running Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 software platform, capable of receiving over-the-air updates.

Dimensions and Platform

The Tiguan R-Line measures 4,539mm in length, 1,639mm in height (excluding roof rails), and 1,842mm in width, making it 30mm longer than its predecessor while maintaining a similar width. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,680mm. Built on the MQB Evo platform, the new Tiguan benefits from the latest advancements in Volkswagen’s modular architecture.

Powertrain Options

Globally, the new Tiguan is offered with a variety of powertrains, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, petrol, and diesel engines. However, specific details regarding the engine options for the Indian market have not been officially confirmed. Given Volkswagen’s strategy, it’s anticipated that the Tiguan R-Line in India will feature a potent 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering over 250hp. This aligns with the brand’s performance-oriented offerings in other markets.

Market Positioning and Pricing

As a fully imported model, the Tiguan R-Line is expected to be positioned at the premium end of the SUV segment. Pricing is estimated to be around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom), reflecting its high-end features and performance capabilities. This pricing strategy indicates Volkswagen’s intent to cater to discerning customers seeking a blend of luxury and sportiness in their SUV.

The introduction of the Tiguan R-Line underscores Volkswagen’s commitment to expanding its premium lineup in India, offering customers a vehicle that combines advanced technology, dynamic performance, and sophisticated design.
