BMW R 12 GS scrambler unveiled

BMW has unveiled the R 12 G/S, a scrambler-style motorcycle that builds upon the R 12 nineT platform, featuring enhanced suspension and distinctive styling elements.
Engine and Performance
The R 12 G/S is powered by a 1,170cc air/oil-cooled, horizontally opposed twin-cylinder engine, delivering 109 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This engine is shared with the R 12 nineT, ensuring robust performance suitable for both on-road and off-road adventures.
Chassis and Suspension
The motorcycle features a 21-inch front wheel as standard. Depending on the selected package—Standard or Enduro Package Pro—the rear wheel size varies between 17 inches and 18 inches, respectively. The Enduro Package Pro also raises the seat height from 860mm to 875mm, with an optional Rallye seat further increasing it to 890mm. The suspension system includes a fully adjustable USD fork with 200mm of travel at the front and a monoshock with 210mm of travel at the rear, providing ample ground clearance and comfort over varied terrains.
Design and Features
Embracing a minimalist aesthetic, the R 12 G/S incorporates hand protectors and a cockpit fairing as standard. Its design pays homage to the iconic R 80 G/S, with a purposeful stance reminiscent of the earlier HP2 Enduro. The motorcycle is equipped with a 15.5-litre fuel tank and has a fully fueled weight of 229 kg.
Braking and Electronics
Braking components include twin 310mm discs with axially mounted Brembo calipers at the front and a 265mm rotor at the rear. The R 12 G/S is outfitted with advanced electronic rider aids, such as traction control, cornering ABS (which is switchable), engine braking control, keyless ignition, and an LED headlight with an optional adaptive feature, enhancing both safety and convenience.
Customization Options
The Enduro Package Pro enhances the motorcycle’s off-road capabilities by offering features like off-road footpegs, a 20mm handlebar riser, and the Enduro Pro riding mode, which supplements the standard Rain, Road, and Enduro modes.
With its blend of classic design cues and modern technology, the BMW R 12 G/S aims to cater to riders seeking a versatile and capable scrambler for diverse riding conditions.
