KTM 390 Enduro R Launched: A Hardcore Off-Road Machine

KTM has officially rolled out the 390 Enduro R in India, priced at ₹3.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new variant is engineered as a more rugged, off-road-oriented version of the popular 390 Adventure, specifically aimed at dirt trail enthusiasts and adventure riders.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the 390 Enduro R shares its powerhouse with the 390 Adventure — a 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, delivering 46 PS of power and 39 Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 6-speed transmission and comes equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter for seamless gear changes.

Built for the Trails

  • Wheels & Tyres: To boost its off-road prowess, KTM equips this bike with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels, wrapped in Mitas E07+ Enduro Trail tyres — ideal for tackling challenging terrains.
  • Suspension Setup: The suspension setup is long-travel and fully adjustable, similar to the one on the 390 Adventure, ensuring better control and comfort on rough tracks.
  • High Ground Clearance: The 390 Enduro R offers 253 mm of ground clearance and a seat height of 860 mm, giving it a clear edge over the 390 Adventure’s 237 mm clearance and 830 mm seat.

Design and Ergonomics

The Enduro R takes a more minimalist design approach compared to its sibling. It features a single-piece headlamp unit instead of the Adventure’s dual vertical stack. The bike also sports a flatter rally-style seat and slimmer body panels, keeping the focus on function over form — perfect for trail work.

Brakes & Electronics

  • Braking Setup: Braking duties are handled by a 285 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc, which are slightly smaller than those on the Adventure.
  • Tech & Features: The 390 Enduro R comes with a compact TFT display, offering two ride modes – Street and Offroad. It also includes switchable traction control and ABS. However, it doesn’t feature the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) found in the Adventure, meaning it lacks cornering ABS and advanced traction control.

Weight and Fuel Tank

KTM has kept the weight down to 177 kg (kerb) — which is 5 kg lighter than the Adventure. It also features a smaller 9-litre fuel tank, compared to the 14.5-litre tank on the 390 Adventure, which aligns with its trail-focused nature.

Positioning in the Market

With its focused off-road design and solid feature set, the KTM 390 Enduro R stands as a compelling alternative to machines like the Kawasaki KLX230, offering more power, better tech, and KTM’s race-bred DNA. It’s a bike built for those who want a trail-specific machine right out of the box, with fewer compromises.

In essence, the KTM 390 Enduro R is not just another adventure bike — it’s a true off-road warrior, ready to tear through trails while offering top-notch performance and durability.
