BMW R 1300 R Unveiled: This Streetfighter Is A Boxer

Apr 13, 2025

BMW Motorrad has unveiled the 2025 R 1300 R, a dynamic streetfighter that succeeds the R 1250 R. This new model integrates the robust 1,300cc boxer engine from the R 1300 GS lineup, delivering enhanced performance and a sportier riding experience.

Engine and Performance

  • Powertrain: The R 1300 R is powered by a 1,300cc air-/oil-cooled boxer twin engine, producing 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This marks an increase of 9 hp and 7 Nm over its predecessor.
  • Transmission: Equipped with a 6-speed gearbox, the motorcycle also offers an optional Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), allowing for clutchless gear shifts and providing both manual and automatic modes.
  • Weight: Despite its muscular appearance, the R 1300 R maintains a kerb weight of 239 kg, similar to the R 1250 R, thanks to a new lighter frame and alloy components.

Design and Ergonomics

  • Aesthetics: The motorcycle features a bulkier front end, layered tank extensions, a sharper LED headlight, and a sculpted fuel tank, giving it a more aggressive stance.
  • Rider Positioning: Adjustments include a slightly lowered and forward-set handlebar, more rear-set footpegs, and a reduced seat height of 784 mm, offering a sportier riding posture.

Electronics and Rider Aids

  • Ride Modes: Standard modes include Rain, Road, and Eco. The optional ‘Riding Modes Pro’ package adds Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes for enhanced performance.
  • Safety Features: Standard equipment comprises engine braking control, cornering traction control, and cornering ABS. Optional features include radar-assisted Active Cruise Control and Front Collision Warning systems.

Suspension and Braking

  • Suspension: The R 1300 R is the first production motorcycle to feature an inverted fork with an adjustable spring rate. It also includes a paralever monoshock with electronic preload and damping adjustments.
  • Braking System: The bike is equipped with dual 320 mm front disc brakes and a single 285 mm rear disc brake, featuring BMW’s Integral Pro ABS for simultaneous activation.

Market Positioning and Availability

  • Pricing: In the U.S., the R 1300 R is priced at $16,595 (approximately ₹14.27 lakh).
  • India Launch: BMW Motorrad is expected to introduce the R 1300 R in India later this year, positioning it just below the R 1300 GS, which is priced at ₹21.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The BMW R 1300 R offers a blend of performance and comfort, making it an ideal choice for riders seeking a powerful yet manageable streetfighter. Its advanced features and refined ergonomics position it as a versatile option in BMW’s lineup, appealing to those who desire the essence of the GS series in a more compact and road-focused package.
