Nissan Magnite CNG launch by April this year

Mar 1, 2025

Nissan is set to introduce a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) variant of its compact SUV, the Magnite, by April 2025. This move aligns with the growing trend of CNG adoption in the Indian automotive market, offering consumers a more economical and environmentally friendly fuel option.

CNG Kit Details and Installation

The Magnite’s CNG kit will be available as a dealer-level accessory, similar to the approach taken by Renault for its models like the Kiger, Kwid, and Triber. This means that authorized Nissan dealerships will handle the installation of the CNG kit, ensuring that the vehicle’s warranty and performance standards are maintained.

Compatibility and Performance

The CNG kit is designed exclusively for the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a manual transmission. While official figures are yet to be released, it’s anticipated that the Magnite CNG will deliver a fuel efficiency of approximately 18-22 km per kg of CNG. Details regarding the power and torque outputs when operating on CNG have not been disclosed.

Warranty and Documentation

Nissan will uphold its standard vehicle warranty of 3 years or 1,00,000 km for the Magnite CNG. Additionally, dealerships will provide a 1-year warranty specifically for the CNG kit. Post-installation, dealers will assist customers in updating the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) to reflect the CNG conversion, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Pricing and Availability

Although the exact pricing for the Magnite CNG has not been announced, it’s expected to be in line with the Renault Kiger’s CNG kit, which is priced at an additional ₹79,500 over the base variant. The CNG kit components will be supplied by the Uno Minda Group, a reputable name in the automotive components industry. It’s yet to be confirmed whether the CNG option will be available across all Magnite trims or limited to specific variants.

CNG Market Trends in India

The Indian automotive market has witnessed a significant surge in CNG vehicle sales. In the last calendar year, 7,15,213 CNG-powered passenger vehicles were sold, marking a 35% year-on-year increase. Maruti Suzuki leads this segment with a 71.60% market share, followed by Tata Motors (16.13%), Hyundai (10.04%), and Toyota (2.21%). The introduction of the Magnite CNG underscores Nissan’s commitment to offering alternative fuel options to its customers, tapping into the growing demand for CNG vehicles in India.

In summary, the upcoming launch of the Nissan Magnite CNG provides consumers with an economical and eco-friendly alternative, reflecting the industry’s shift towards sustainable mobility solutions.
