Volvo EX30 Cross Country electric Revealed
Volvo has unveiled the EX30 Cross Country, an off-road-oriented adaptation of its entry-level electric SUV, marking the first time the Cross Country designation has been applied to an SUV and an electric vehicle within Volvo’s lineup.
Design Enhancements
The EX30 Cross Country distinguishes itself with several rugged design modifications:
- Increased Ground Clearance: The suspension has been elevated by 19mm to better navigate uneven terrains.
- Protective Cladding: Black cladding adorns the fenders, complemented by robust skid plates on both the front and rear bumpers, enhancing durability against off-road obstacles.
- Wheel Options: Standard 18-inch alloy wheels are equipped with 720mm all-terrain tires. An optional upgrade to 19-inch alloy wheels is available, though these come fitted with road tires.
- Additional Features: A roof rack is included to facilitate extra cargo capacity. Optional accessories such as mudflaps, a roof-mounted kayak holder, a roof-mounted tent, and a stowable towbar are also offered to cater to various adventure needs.
Interior Features
Inside, the EX30 Cross Country mirrors the standard EX30’s interior, featuring:
- A 12.3-inch Google-based touchscreen infotainment system.
- Wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
- A soundbar extending across the dashboard’s width, providing an enhanced audio experience.
Powertrain and Performance
The EX30 Cross Country is equipped with a dual-motor setup, delivering a combined output of 422 horsepower and 543Nm of torque. This configuration is paired with a 69kWh battery, identical to the top-tier variant of the standard EX30, offering an estimated range of up to 427 kilometers on the WLTP cycle.
To improve off-road handling, the vehicle features a softened five-link rear suspension, designed to absorb the impacts of rough terrains, muddy paths, and light snow, while maintaining comfort during highway travel. Volvo emphasizes that the EX30 Cross Country is intended for “weekend explorers,” aiming to provide access to natural settings without the intent to “conquer” them.
