Kia PV5 EV revealed as brand’s first van

Feb 28, 2025

Kia has officially unveiled the PV5, marking its debut into the electric van segment. This launch introduces the company’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV), a modular skateboard architecture designed to support a range of all-electric, multi-purpose utility vehicles for both private and commercial use.

Diverse Body Styles

The PV5 is available in multiple configurations to cater to various needs:

  • Passenger Version: Equipped with rear seating, this model emphasizes comfort and space for occupants.
  • Cargo Version: Designed without rear seats to maximize storage capacity, making it ideal for goods transportation.
  • Crew Cab: Features seating for additional passengers, suitable for work crews and their equipment.
  • Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicle (WAV): Tailored to accommodate wheelchair users, ensuring accessibility and convenience.

Exterior Design Highlights

The PV5 showcases a sleek, futuristic aesthetic:

  • Front Fascia: High-mounted angular LED strips serve as indicators, with primary headlamp units positioned below. The central charging port is flanked by a front-facing camera above and a prominent radar sensor beneath.
  • Side Profile: Distinctive blacked-out pillars, bonnet, and upper fenders contrast with the body, complemented by substantial side mirrors and expansive windows. Protective cladding encircles the lower perimeter.
  • Rear Design: Tailgate configurations vary by model; the Passenger version features a single lift-up boot lid, while the Cargo and Crew versions are equipped with dual, side-opening doors.

Interior Features

While comprehensive interior images are pending, available glimpses reveal:

  • Dashboard Layout: A 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a 7-inch instrument cluster display.
  • Technology Integration: The infotainment system operates on Google’s Android Automotive OS, offering over-the-air updates and access to a dedicated app store for business-specific applications.
  • Seating Arrangements: All models provide front seating for two, with the Passenger, Crew Cab, and WAV versions offering additional rear seating.
  • Additional Amenities: Prominent grab handles on the A-pillars enhance accessibility.

Market Position and Availability

Set to compete with models like the Volkswagen ID Buzz in global markets, the PV5 is slated for a phased release in South Korea and Europe starting in the latter half of 2025. Production is scheduled to commence in July 2025 at Kia’s facility in Hwaseong, South Korea. Details regarding its launch in other regions, including India, remain undisclosed.
