Petrol Porsche Macan S, GTS discontinued in India

Porsche India has officially discontinued the petrol-powered Macan S and Macan GTS variants from its lineup. This move leaves the entry-level Macan as the sole petrol option available in the country. The decision aligns with Porsche’s global strategy to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of the Macan, which were already discontinued in the European Union in April 2024. The complete global discontinuation of the petrol Macan is expected by 2026.
Current Macan Petrol Offering in India
The remaining petrol variant, the base Macan, is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 265 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. This model is priced at ₹96.05 lakh (ex-showroom).
Discontinued Variants: Macan S and Macan GTS
Both the Macan S and Macan GTS shared a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine but differed in performance tuning:
- Macan S: Produced 380 hp and 520 Nm of torque; priced at ₹1.45 crore.
- Macan GTS: Delivered 440 hp and 550 Nm of torque; priced at ₹1.53 crore.
While new orders for these variants are no longer accepted, some units may still be available through select dealerships.
Macan Electric Lineup Continues
Porsche continues to offer the electric versions of the Macan in India, which include:
- Macan Electric: Priced at ₹1.22 crore.
- Macan 4S Electric: Priced at ₹1.39 crore.
- Macan Turbo Electric: Priced at ₹1.69 crore.
These electric variants remain unaffected by the discontinuation of the petrol models.
Broader Market Context
Porsche’s decision to phase out the petrol Macan aligns with its global shift towards electrification. However, due to a slowdown in electric vehicle (EV) sales, the company is also considering introducing new models with combustion and hybrid powertrains. This includes evaluating a potential successor to the current petrol-powered Macan, which could be launched by the end of the decade.
